Soft drinks are responsible for the duplication or tripling of the incidence of caries among adolescents. Soft drinks cause cavities. Acidity Soda is worse for teeth than the solid sugar found in candy. Normally, the body saliva has a pH of about 7.4 which is slightly alkaline. If you take refreshments during the day, as often happens with teenagers, phosphoric acid reduces the pH of saliva to acidic levels.
